The million-copy bestselling series about a small Japanese cafe that offers its visitors the chance to travel back in time.
Toshikazu Kawaguchi’s moving Before the Coffee Gets Cold, translated from Japanese by Geoffrey Trousselot, explores the age-old question: what would you do if you could travel back in time? More importantly, who would you want to meet, maybe for one last time?
In a small back alley in Tokyo, there is a cafe which has been serving carefully brewed coffee for more than one hundred years. But this coffee shop offers its customers a unique experience: the chance to travel back in time.
In Before the Coffee Gets Cold, we meet four visitors, each of whom is hoping to make use of the cafe’s time-travelling offer, in order to: confront the man who left them, receive a letter from their husband whose memory has been taken by Alzheimer's, see their sister one last time, and meet the daughter they never got the chance to know.
But the journey into the past does not come without risks: customers must sit in a particular seat, they cannot leave the cafe, and finally, they must return to the present before the coffee gets cold . . .
Continue the beautiful storytelling with Tales from the Cafe, Before Your Memory Fades, and Before We Say Goodbye.

It's a great book, which is full of emotions and inspiration that no matter how difficult situation people are going through, everyone should overcome the hard times and move on with their lives with positivity.... I love the book and it's unique concept, and also loved that how each chapter portrays the beautiful relationship between all the characters.... It's just formidable...❤❤❤❤

Very simple writing style that amplifies the message of the stories held within one story. Very atmospheric and calm. Reading it will teach one happiness.

I liked the story but not loved it. It was a bit dramatic and dragged but nevertheless was a cozy read with a good concept of returning to past but for a limited time period .Towards the end , I just wanted the story to get finished as it felt quite repetitive writing wise

Rarely read non fiction but glad I read this. A heart warming story set in a cafe in Japan. It makes you want to open or at the very least visit such a coffee shop.

Imagine a coffee shop that lets you go back in time with a few (read many) rules to follow. As interesting as the premise was, the book was pretty bland. I understand some essence being lost because of this being a translation. Expected a bit too much I guess, DNFing after the second story.

First of all, the book is translated beautifully. The story will warm your heart till the last page. It's simple yet intriguing and emotionally driven. A must read 💜
